How we research and check our content

Home Warranty Picks compares home warranty companies and publishes guides on how home warranties work, what they cost and where they fall short. This page says exactly how that content is produced, what we verify, and what we do not.

Last updated 2026-10-12

What we verify

  • Plan names, what each plan covers, and the optional add-ons each company sells.
  • Published pricing: monthly and annual premiums and the service call (trade call) fee options, as shown on each company’s own site or quote flow at our last check.
  • Coverage limits and caps, waiting periods, cancellation terms and states where a plan is not sold, from each company’s sample contract where one is published.
  • Customer review figures (Trustpilot, Better Business Bureau) as captured on the date we note next to them.
  • Whether a statement is supported by the source it cites, and whether the source is current.

What we do not verify

Home warranty pricing depends on your ZIP code, home size, plan and chosen service fee, and companies change prices and promotions often. Every price on this site is an approximate starting point, never a quote. Your contract, not our summary, is what decides whether a repair is covered.

Provider rankings and “best for” verdicts are editorial, produced under the method on how we rank. We may earn a commission from provider links; that never changes a factual statement, a limit or an exclusion we report.

How update dates work

Each review, comparison and guide shows a “last updated” date. It changes only when the content was actually re-checked, never automatically on every page load. We re-check a page when a company changes its plans, prices or contract terms, or when a reader reports something out of date.

Found an error?

Tell us through our contact page, with the page address and the statement in question. Confirmed errors are corrected and the page date is updated.

Nothing on this site is legal, insurance or financial advice. Home warranties are service contracts, not insurance policies, and terms vary by company and state. Read the full sample contract before you buy.
